December 30, 2006Phisher Kings: Teach Someone To Phish?
Someone’s psychology, sociology, and/ or electronic anthropologydoctoral paper is lurking beneath all this latest research that showsphishers/ spammers/ scammers are using ever sophisticated methods tograb your attention so they can grab something of yours - preferablye-money.
Now I’m not going to get into the psych makeup ofphishers; that’s not my intent, despite my opinions. But the low
costof the latest communications technology and its ease of implementationmakes it ever so much easier for you to at least be a target if not avictim. That means more vigilance in 2007 and beyond, as severalexperts are saying that the lastest avenues for phishers are vishing and smishing (SMS phishing). VoIP and SMS are, in fact, the latest tech platforms for phishers.
Techintelligence and social intelligence seem unfortunately mutuallyexclusive in these cases. Fortunately, about computer-based crime ingeneral, those getting caught are being given stiffer penalties.
