Money Flowing To Communication Startups
While Vonage might be getting stiffed US$58M in a patent infringement case with Verizon, money is flowing into VoIP, Wi-Fi/ WiMax, and other communications companies:
- Fon raised US$13M.
- Gemini Mobile received $20M.
- Clearwire’s IPO generated $600M last week. However, as of yesterday, their shares fell 11%, due
to doubts about when the company will actually turn a profit.
Vonage got off lucky, considering the original amount that Verizon requested was $197M. Butdespite the continued attacks on Vonage, I’m thinking that we may see aVoIP IPOor two this year from other companies. And with big players likeMicrosoft getting heavy into VoIP, and large companies switching overto VoIP, there’ll be a lot of money flowing and eyes on the technology.Hopefully that’s all good news for VoIP.
