Voice Apps For Learning Language
November 28, 2006Voice Apps For Learning Language
Download Squad talks about FriendsAbroad,a beta web service that is a social network aimed at people who wouldlike to learn a new language. There’s no voice mode yet, but it’scoming. For now, there’s only email and text chat. But what a great wayto learn to make the global village even smaller.
My suggestion to FriendsAbroad: integrate SightSpeed’s free video click-to-callfunctionality. Learning
a foreign language is easier when you can seehow the mouth shapes the different vowels and consonants. It’s alsomuch more fun talking another language when you can see the otherperson. Believe me, I’ve tried. I speak a smattering of six languagesplus English, and communicating on the phone is much harder than doingit in person, especially when my spoken language skills are so so. And VoIP for learning a new language is a great idea, but video click-to-call is even better.
