Dubai bans VoIP in free zones

There were speculations in UAE that the Telecom Regulatory Authority would relax the ban on VoIP services in the month of December last year. However, the TRA has detracted from its early stand towards Internet based phone services.

According to Gulf News, the Regulatory Body is now brining rules to ban VoIP services in the free zones of Dubai from next month. Though, it is affecting Du as of now, since it has been authorized to provide its

telecom services in the free zones, its long term consequences are bad for VoIP in general.

Du-owned DIC Telecom provides VoIP services in the free zones of Dubai Internet City. Du explains that the TRA instructions have forced DIC to stop providing internet phone services to the customers.

The decision to ban VoIP would affect the development of this budding technology.
